Zero Mile Presents The Growlers
CRITIC'S PICK:
Sun., April 12
The Growlers, Variety Playhouse - These West Coasters who describe their sound as "Beach Goth," are fronted by Brooks Neilsen, the founder and one of the only stable members of this outfit which had been banging around before making a splash in 2016 with the Julian Casablancas' produced City Club. They create slick, sunshiny pop with a darker lyrical slant in songs such as the cheery "Orgasm of Death" and the lighter reggae "Drop Your Phone in the Sink," both from Casual Acquaintances 2018. Their most recent album of new material was nearly seven years ago so it's surprising they can headline a venue of this size based on an audience that hasn't heard anything from them besides two new singles. Few know or care who is currently in the band, but with a voice as distinctive as Neilsen's, and with plenty to prove, this might be a cool night. - Hal Horowitz
From the venue:
The Growlers have carved out their own mythos in modern rock—a sun-drenched fever dream surf, psych, garage, and California weirdness. At the center is founder and ringleader Brooks Nielsen, whose unmistakable voice and twisted pop sensibility have guided the band from dive bar misfits to cult legends. Now, after six years away from the road, The Growlers return for their first world tour since 2019, with dates spanning Australia, the UK, Europe, and North America. The comeback arrives alongside two brand-new singles, “Crisis” and “Feel My Funk,” signaling a bold new chapter for the band while staying true to their unmistakable sound and unshakable spirit.Zero Mile Presents The Growlers | 04/12/2026 8:00 PM
