Wine & Design: The Hoodie In Comics
From the venue:
MODA’s Wine & Design series returns with an evening that traces the hoodie’s evolution from everyday garment to cultural icon. This session features Regina N. Bradley, Ph.D., whose work explores Southern culture, Black life, and the stories embedded in popular media. Set inside the exhibition The HOODIE: Identity, Power, Protest, the event opens with time to browse the Design Shop before a brief staff-led tour that contextualizes the hoodie’s shifting role in design and public imagination.
Dr. Bradley then turns to comics, where the hoodie becomes both costume and commentary. From vigilante figures to grounded, everyday protagonists, she highlights how artists use the garment to signal rebellion, vulnerability, and social critique. The evening invites attendees to consider how this simple piece of clothing speaks volumes—on the page, in the streets, and in contemporary culture.
