Benmont Tench, City Winery - Keyboardist/founding Heartbreaker Tench doesn't have the catalog or voice of his former band mates Tom Petty or Mike Campbell, but he's touring supporting a new album, The Melancholy Season, his second post-TP solo release. As its title implies, it's a simmering set of low volume, high-passion music that takes a few listens to warm up to mostly due to Tench's uneven vocals. Sure, he'll likely do some Petty stuff, which is what the audience wants and expects, but he's a master pianist whose talents weren't always acknowledged in his four-decade tenure as sideman to a legendary icon. - Hal Horowitz
