Justin Nozuka
Fresh off his sold out European and North American tour, Justin Nozuka is riding the momentum from his 5th studio album, “Daydreams & Endless Nights”. Born in New York City and raised in Toronto among a family of musicians, Justin reached global success with the RIAA gold certified albums “Holly” and “You I Wind Land and Sea”, the latter debuting at #1 on the Billboard’s Heatseekers Albums chart. JUNO nominations for Breakthrough Artist of the Year and Best Alternative Album followed, along with world tours, performances including the Glastonbury and Fuji Rock Festivals, and TV programs like The Late Show with David Letterman and Jimmy Kimmel Live! which sparked a dedication to touring he maintains to this day. Justin’s musical style has organically evolved from his acoustic, folk-infused roots to a spellbinding brand of alternative R&B as seen in his most recent releases. This unique musical diversity is resonating with his devoted fanbase and new listeners alike, setting the stage for an exciting new era of music.
“No One But You”, tipped by Complex, Spin and CBC upon release, marked the long-awaited return of Nozuka. It was his first release since the 2018 album, “Run To Waters”, and found the artist exploring a new sonic direction, shifting from a folk-minded approach into a world of smoldering, down-tempo R&B/soul. His EP “then, now & again” featuring “summer night o8” mines this new sound with Nozuka fusing his crystalline vocals with magnetic, woozy atmospherics which gravitate around delicate guitars and twinkling, off-kilter percussion.
His newest release – Side A (Nova) and Side B (Closer) takes Justin into a more contemporary sound pushing him further into the r&b/pop realm. “It’s the first time I’ve really gone in this direction… kinda scary but also very liberating. I’m just having fun with these two, exploring new sounds. Have been sitting on the Nova idea for over 2 years, played it for my manager and he was like – THAT – let’s get That. A couple months later and we landed here. FUN FACT: Closer is actually just a really slowed down version of Nova with a different top melody. Hope you enjoy and as always thank you for listening.”
