Lachy Doley
CRITIC'S PICK:
Wed. Feb. 4
Lachy Doley, City Winery - Australian keyboard wizard Doley doesn't just play the organ, he attacks it like a hungry tiger at feeding time; hair and arms flailing with the look of a mad scientist inventing a new funk and rock creation. He has been perfecting this show for nearly 25 years and is acknowledged as one of the finest keys playing frontmen to burn up a stage since the heyday of Jerry Lee Lewis or Keith Emerson. Doley's a convincing singer, too, but it's when he lets fly on that organ and clavinet (check out his take on Hendrix's "Voodoo Child" where his keyboard sounds like Jimi's guitar), that blows away audiences who always return for another dose - and bring friends. - Hal Horowitz
