Formed in 1971 at Macalester College in St. Paul, Minnesota, Sounds of Blackness is a legendary collective whose sound seamlessly blends jazz, blues, gospel, R&B, soul, hip hop, rock, and spirituals. For more than five decades, they have inspired audiences around the world, performing for presidents, royalty, and global leaders on some of the most prestigious stages imaginable.

Their resume includes appearances at the Olympics, the Super Bowl, the Grammys, and the White House, along with collaborations and shared stages with icons such as Quincy Jones, Aretha Franklin, Stevie Wonder, Prince, Michael Jackson, Oprah Winfrey, John Legend, and many more. With multiple Grammy Awards and honors from Image, Soul Train, and Stellar Awards, their impact on music and culture is both historic and ongoing.
