Koe Wetzel

CRITIC’S PICK

Thurs., Sept.17

Koe Wetzel, Wyatt Flores, Ameris Bank Amphitheatre — Texas country-rocking singer/songwriter Wetzel aims for the back rows, and generally hits them, with arena-sized choruses ready-made for crowd sing-alongs. He’s been perfecting this style for a decade and has been rewarded with the radio hits to prove that it, even though his vocals aren’t especially distinctive. Wetzel appears on the Night Champion World Tour, named after his most recent, sixth, full-length. It’s slick, tough and a culmination of contemporary country that’s more rock than twang. Arrive early for youngster Flores whose approach is a bit fresher and blues-based as evidenced by his new single “Drive All Night.” — Hal Horowitz
