Widowspeak, Thomas Dollbaum at The EARL
CRITIC'S PICK:
Tues. June 23
Widowspeak, Thomas Dollbaum, The EARL - Ignore the somewhat metal sounding name and be prepared for some of the most affecting, Americana jangle folk/country that has taken this venue's tiny stage. Dulcet-voiced singer/guitarist Molly Hamilton and Robert Earl Thomas have been releasing sweet, soulful, warm and beautifully crafted albums every few yearsisince their 2011 debut. They have a new one, Roses, released a few weeks ago, that keeps their sound intact with a new collection of intimate, moody tunes delivered with inspired playing and Hamilton's distinctive floating vocals. Singer/songwriter and stinging lead guitarist Dollbaum makes for a wonderful opening act. He, too, has a new disc, his second, featuring the song "Dozen Roses" which keeps the fragrant flowers as a theme for this show. - Hal Horowitz
