Big Sandy & His Fly-Rite Boys with The Blacktop Rockets
CRITIC'S PICK:
Fri., June 12
Big Sandy & His Fly-Rite Boys, The Blacktop Rockets, Garden Club at Wild Heaven West End - California's sweet-voiced Big Sandy has been leading an ever-changing lineup of Fly-Rite Boys through his diverse retro catalog since 1988. Rockabilly, doo-wop, Western swing, jump blues and other rootsy genres get spun through Sandy's mostly acoustic, spirited approach. He has a thick catalog of covers and originals but expect to hear music from 2023's What a Dream It's Been, another instant classic. Most Atlanta roots fans, especially those who frequented the Star Bar in the mid-90s, are familiar with the blues rocking Blacktop Rockets. They don't do many shows these days so it's cool to have them opening the festivities. Prepare for a rollicking night. - Hal Horowitz
