311, Dirty Heads, ROME, Ameris Bank Amphitheatre — Anyone listening to 99X in the 90s, when that station was at its culture-defining peak, will remember how emphatically they supported 311. The Capricorn label band’s mix of funk, indie rock, reggae, hip-hop and metal with strong melodic undercurrents, pushed them to headlining status. While the group’s sound stayed consistent, and they continued releasing albums, the glow waned as they plugged away into the 00s. But 2025s deluxe 30th anniversary reissue of 1995s self-titled set and a solid new album, 2024s Full Bloomtheir 14th brought fans back that might have moved on. Headlining this shed proves they remain popular and not necessarily as a retro act, bringing a new generation to sing along to hits like “Down” and “Amber”… with their parents. Openers Dirty Heads, also veterans formed in 2003, combine many of 311s styles, making this an enticing double bill for the whole family.—Hal Horowitz
