Kurt Vile and the Violators at The Eastern
CRITIC'S PICK:
Fri., July 17
Kurt Vile and the Violators, Being Dead, The Eastern - Indie singer/songwriter Vile moved to major label prestige in 2022 as his doe-eyed rocking gradually captured the zeitgeist. He maintains that corporate connection on the recently released Philadelphia's Been Good to Me, another set of laconic, talk/sung, semi-poetic tales where he finds a soft lick, repeats it, and off he goes on a usually, interesting lyrical trek. He has ridden this unique style to ever-larger audiences attracted to his honest, unvarnished delivery and somewhat slacker vibe, creating an improbably compelling sound in a low-key way. The sunshiny '60s pop of the oddly named Being Dead duo of drummer Gumball and singer/guitarist Falcon Bitch (err...not their real names) make cool, musically appropriate openers. - Hal Horowitz
