CRITIC'S PICK:
Sat., August 15
Tinsley Ellis, Eddie Owen Presents at Red Clay - Fiery blues-rocking guitarist Ellis decided to unplug and go solo in 2024, touring that way since. He has crisscrossed the country as a one-man operation, entrancing audiences with stories about the music and his 45+ year career in the blues trenches. He returns to Duluth riding in on this year's Labor of Love, the bluesman's 24th (!) album. It's his second acoustic recording, this one with all original material based on the raw, naked Delta and Chicago traditions that have recently informed his musical outlook. The solo format allows him to cherry-pick what to play nightly, and with a hometown crowd, he'll likely reach back for some rearranged gems and perhaps even revive a few from his first band, the Heartfixers. It'll be a lovefest for one of Atlanta's finest and most recognizable blues artists. - Hal Horowitz

From the venue:

According to Atlanta-based blues guitarist, singer and songwriter Tinsley Ellis, his new, first-ever solo acoustic album, Naked Truth, is both “a departure and an arrival.” Ellis has been recording and travelling the world for over four decades, delivering his feral, guitar-fueled, original electric blues-rock to ever-growing audiences at concert halls, festivals, and clubs. Naked Truth is steeped in the folk blues traditions of Muddy Waters, Skip James, Son House, Robert Johnson and even Leo Kottke.
