An Evening With Band Of Horses And Dinosaur Jr. at The Eastern
CRITIC'S PICK:
Sat., July 18
Band of Horses, Dinosaur, Jr., The Eastern - It's anniversary tour time for both acts. South Carolina by-way-of Seattle roots-rockers Band of Horses have been at it for 20 years, releasing their Sub Pop debut Everything All the Time in 2006. They have become less raw and ragged on subsequent albums, not unusual with a shift to a major label. So it'll be interesting to hear how they reproduce the tougher-edged music they started with, informed by two decades of experience. J Mascis, aka Dinosaur, Jr., is scheduled to play 1993s stoner rock favorite Where You Been, now 33 years old, in its entirety. That yielded "Start Choppin'," his second most streamed song, and remains such a popular catalog item it was reissued and expanded to two discs in 2019. Perhaps he'll pluck his punked-out Nirvana-ish version of Gram Parsons' "Hot Burrito #2" from it tonight. - Hal Horowitz
