Independence Eve featuring Drivin N Cryin at Glover Park (Marietta Square)
CRITIC'S PICK:
Fri., July 3
Drivin N Cryin, Glover Park/Marietta Square - The indefatigable Kevn Kinney and his equally tireless comrades recently released Crushing Flowers, one of DNC's finest albums in a career that began in the mid-'80s. Even with some lapses between recordings, the band remains a powerful force in Southern rock and folk. They play around often, but this pre-Independence Day gig allows them to work politics into the set, something the chatty Kinney is likely to do. Musically, you'll get the "Honeysuckle Blue"/"Straight to Hell" hits they have to replicate, plus a large swath of the new release which is, rather remarkably, as powerful as some of their best stuff. - Hal Horowitz
