JUBU at City Winery Atlanta
CRITIC'S PICK:
Sun., August 30
Jubu, City Winery - Previously, Jubu Smith worked as the guitarist serving backup to Maze featuring Frankie Beverly and as a studio musician supporting high profile artists such as Whitney Houston and Luther Vandross. Smith now fronts his own band. His 2024 instrumental debut as a solo act was one of the finest blues/jazz releases of that year, albeit one that never found a wider audience. You'll hear most of it at these two shows (same night, ticket different admissions) at a listening room designed perfectly for his classy, often understated, but usually funky, playing. Wonderful stuff. - Hal Horowitz
From the venue:
City Winery Atlanta presents Jubu live on August 30th at 5pm and 8:30pm. View all Jubu shows -->
For 25 years, Jubu was the voice behind the guitar in Maze featuring Frankie Beverly. That warmth, that recognition, that tone that made entire arenas feel like a living room — that was him.
Now stepping out as a solo artist, Jubu brings a sound rooted in Oakland and shaped by decades alongside Whitney Houston, Luther Vandross, Boyz II Men, Mary J. Blige, and George Duke. His work with Tony! Toni! Toné! is in the DNA. So is everything he absorbed from four decades of playing for people who showed up because music still matters to them.
This is a rare intimate concert experience. Two shows. Limited seating. The kind of evening City Winery was built for — great wine, chef-driven food, and a live performance that reminds you why you love music in the first place.
