Bright Eyes with Lullaby For The Working Class at Variety Playhouse
CRITIC’S PICK
Sun., Oct. 11
Bright Eyes, Lullaby for the Working Class, Variety Playhouse — It used to be that a new Conor Oberst album, either using his own name, fronting Bright Eyes, or working under a flurry of other guises, was a big deal. That glow has faded a bit as the years have tumbled by. Five Dice, All Threes (2024) didn’t generate the sort of excitement his creaking but cool pop/rock had in the past. Still, Oberst’s bulging catalog of offbeat tunes sung in a cracked voice remains a unique fixture on the indie singer/songwriter scene. There are some wonderful tunes on that recent release reminiscent of the sound that made “First Day of My Life” his most streamed song by a large margin. — Hal Horowitz
