BECK: RIDE Lonesome TOUR
CRITIC’S PICK
Friday, October. 30
Beck, The Coca-Cola Roxy — Beck’s newest album, Ride Lonesome, is, dare I say, “mellow” in every sense of the word. It glides past you like the wind coming through an open window as it blows past the sheer curtains, not unlike the cover art. And, before you know it, it’s over. Beck’s distinctive vocals are somewhat buried in the mix, plaintive and wanton, accentuating the slow, emotive soundscapes with just enough presence to keep you interested. It’s hard to imagine a concert performance made up of just the 12 songs from Ride Lonesome. Luckily, Beck has over a dozens albums from which to choose to liven up his concert performance. Perhaps he’ll even offer up a song or two from Everybody’s Gotta Learn Sometime, his Valentine’s gift from earlier this year. This show will probably be sold-out by the time you read this. — Tony Paris
