The Bartow History Museum will present From Spirituals to Freedom: Building America, a musical performance by Sparky and Rhonda Rucker, on
August 29 from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. at The Grand Theater. This special program is part of the By the People: Conversations Beyond 250, a series of community-driven programs created by humanities councils in collaboration with local partners. The initiative was developed by the Federation of State
Humanities Councils and the Smithsonian Center for Folklife and Cultural Heritage. The performance is free and open to the public.
Take a musical journey through America’s past as Sparky and Rhonda Rucker combine music, storytelling, and history to explore how spirituals and folk songs evolved and helped shape American thought and culture. Through powerful songs and engaging narratives, the duo will guide audiences through stories of resilience, struggle, freedom, and cultural identity,
demonstrating how music has preserved history and carried important messages across generations.
