In March, A Cappella Books presented a book signing and film screening event at Tara Theatre to mark the publication of hip hop pioneer Fab 5 Freddy's autobiography, 'Everybody's Fly: A Life of Art, Music, and Changing the Culture.'
This time around, the venerable independent bookstore in Little 5 Points is hosting a similar event featuring another hip hop progenitor, Grandmaster Flash, whose tome, 'Birth of a Culture,' is now hitting the streets.
The Tara festivities will kick off with a conversation with Flash, followed by a screening of Charlie Ahearn’s 1982 film 'Wild Style,' which features hip hop luminaries including Fab 5 Freddy, Adam Horowitz, Lee Quiñones, Lady Pink, The Rock Steady Crew, The Cold Crush Brothers, Rammellzee. Grandmaster Flash will introduce the film.
The Fab 5 Freddy fandango in March was a blast. Anyone interested in the origins of the artistic movement that forever changed the global cultural landscape should be in attendance Friday night. — Doug DeLoach
