Eyedrum Art and Music Gallery - Next up on the Monday Night Creative Music Series calendar at Eyedrum Art & Music Gallery is a double-bill with Toby Summerfield followed by Jeffrey Butzer’s Academy of Staring Daggers.
Summerfield is a marvelously talented composer and improviser on guitar, pedal steel and bass who creates densely immersive ambient soundscapes. He has worked with Colin Stetson, Dina Maccabee and Bill Brovold; was a section leader for Rhys Chatham’s “100 guitars” performances; and leads the large ensemble Never Enough Hope.
The Atlanta-based ensemble The Academy of Staring Daggers features Ana Balka (violin), Ben Davis(saxophone), Fran lora (upright bass), Bützer, Mykal June and Matt Steadman (guitars) and Sean Zearfoss (drums).
Butzer says the Academy will play selections from an upcoming LP titled ‘Xionesco,’ material from recent concert performances, “and probably a Danzig cover with a guest singer.” Sounds like good noisy fun to me. – Doug DeLoach
