Out on Film 2026 - Uncle Roy

From the venue:

Built from nine decades of professional and personal archives, the endearing Uncle Roy follows the extraordinary life of globe-traveling skater-turned-photographer Roy Blakey through the lens of his niece, award-winning documentary filmmaker Keri Pickett. Born in Oklahoma in 1930, Roy dreamed of performing on ice. He began collecting figure skating programs and photographs, amassing more than 44,000 items over his lifetime, including posters, costumes and other theatrical skating memorabilia. His passion also led to a career performing around the world with Holiday on Ice before he reinvented himself as a photographer in New York, where his work with male nudes pushed boundaries in art and publishing. As Roy’s memories begin to fade, Keri races to preserve his remarkable archives and ensure that his artistic and queer legacy finds a permanent home.
