Pantera

Pantera is a pioneering American heavy metal band formed in 1981 in Arlington, Texas, by brothers Dimebag Darrell (guitar) and Vinnie Paul (drums). After a glam metal start and three early albums with singer Terry Glaze, the group found its definitive sound with vocalist Phil Anselmo and bassist Rex Brown, developing the influential groove metal style in the 1990s. Their albums Cowboys from Hell (1990), Vulgar Display of Power (1992), and Far Beyond Driven (1994) brought commercial and critical success, with the latter debuting at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. Internal tensions and Anselmo’s health issues eventually led to a breakup in 2003. Following the tragic onstage murder of Dimebag in 2004 and Vinnie Paul’s death in 2018, Anselmo and Brown reunited the band in 2023 with Zakk Wylde and Charlie Benante joining on tour, marking Pantera’s first live performances in over two decades.
