THE CHALLENGE: Design a form-fitting pregnancy look for supermodel/actress Rebecca Romijn
Hold up, wait a minute. Is what I think is happening ... happening? Has "Project Runway's" move to Lifetime sanitized the series? Two episodes in and Heidi's already canned the show's best chances for catch phrases and hare-brained concept outfits. Halter diapers? Chicken-egg baby slings? C'mon! You'll find more offensive items on the Urban Outfitters sale rack any day. And at least Ari and Malvin's looks actually involved sewing. The fact that Mitchell managed to survive a second week without successfully merging fabric and thread is indefensible.
Let's consider the case against Mitchell:
Item #1: Episode 1's naked-model-moo-moo mishap
It was a catastrophe, but it was the first episode, pressure was high and his model lied about being a fatty. We had sympathy. Plus, Qristyl's shiny purple number was so offensive, we could justify sending someone else home.
Item #2: "I don't want to go out on a limb with this challenge. I want to be safe."
He gave up before he even started — the cardinal sin of "Project Runway" (or so we thought). Did he learn nothing from being in the bottom two last week?
__Item #3: The Jolly Green Giant hot pants
"I heard you were having twins, so I made you the biggest damn shorts I could find," he joked. "She's a mess!" said Nina. "She's a pregnancy mess," elaborated Heidi.
I rest my case.__
