The opulently decorated four-star, four-diamond hotel on Peachtree Street is squeaky clean following its $10.5 million renovation last year. The Persian carpets, antique furniture and 19th-century art have kept it a favorite, albeit a pricey one. A standard deluxe room (one king or two doubles) will set you back about $225 without a discount. The Buckhead hotel is higher rated (one more diamond) and higher priced at about $285.

With a hotel landscape dominated by the big chains, there aren’t many hotels in the city with as much individual charm — and none with as much history — as the Georgian Terrace. Renovated with all the modern conveniences, but retaining its early 20th century feel, it’s one landmark of the new Atlanta for which we can be proud. While hotel rooms look pretty much the same, particularly when you’re asleep (as the Motel 6 ad goes) this hotel offers some nice touches to add life to the rooms. And with its central location, all you need to do is go up to the rooftop pool to get one of the best panoramic views of the city.
