For years, cross-country teams have jogged on the rooted paths and trekked up the grueling hills of KENNESAW MOUNTAIN NATIONAL BATTLEFIELD PARK. The park offers about 17 miles of trails that wind through some of the Civil War battlefields, monuments and earthworks. And there’s a spectacular view of Atlanta from the top of the mountain. Though crowded at times, the diverse routes allow beginners and hardcore athletes alike to enjoy the expansive park. The park could get even better if officials decide to limit some of the teams (which can be as large as 100 members) to only certain running times to cut down on the wear and tear of the site. That’ll leave you alone with nature for a good sweat.

For that reason, we advise joggers to stick to the 2.4-mile track at Chastain Park, which is populated day and night and provides plenty of challenging hills and valleys. Just keep a sharp eye out for stray golf balls.

If you head west, young man, late at night along the Freedom Parkway jogging trail, you'll catch a gorgeous view of downtown. For this panorama, the Freedom Parkway trail has been nominated as the best view in Atlanta. But it's a great jogging path because the trail is largely uninhabited compared to Piedmont Park or Chastain, which allows runners to set their own pace without feeling the need to show off for the other runners.
