It’s amazing we even bother buying clothes for kids. They grow so fast it’s like they’re tiny adults with glandular problems. Instead of constantly buying new duds for your miniature Incredible Hulk, you can save money by buying high-quality used clothes at Baby Love. Open in Grant Park since early 2011, Baby Love sells clothes and shoes for babies and kids of all ages, not to mention maternity wear, toys, books and even furniture. The shop’s picky (in a good way) about what it accepts, and refuses to sell anything that’s stained, has holes or even clothes that have gotten pilly. Of course, the best part of consignment is that you can make money, too. 465 Boulevard, Suite 101. 404-590-1380. babyloveatlanta.com. less...

While some shoppers relish the chance to pore over rack after rack of second-hand jackets in search of just the right find (read: the one without moth holes), we can’t claim to have that much patience. That’s why B CHIC is our favorite consignment shop. Where, in other consignment stores, you must search through picked-over stuff to score the perfect discount threads, this small, neat shop’s inventory is selective: good-as-new Nanette Lepore, Trina Turk, Tory Burch, Prada, Roberto Cavalli, Nicole Miller. There’s even the occasional pair of bargain-priced Manolos. A recent trip revealed a deeply discounted, ballet-pink shrug with gauze and feathers from Alberta Ferretti for just $50. There’s no crazy, bleeding-edge couture here, but the goods strike just the right balance between trendy and classic without veering into fuddy-duddy territory. less...

OK, so it’s a national chain, but PLATO’S CLOSET has more of the feel of a neighborhood boutique than your typical big-box retailer. Though the findings are rarely fancy, serious diggers can occasionally score labels like Armani Exchange and Bebe among the standard selection of Gap, Abercrombie & Fitch, Express and similar brands. Plus, with eight locations in metro Atlanta, they’re easy to find.

Avoid the rookie parents’ common mistake of buying your precious new addition brand-new clothes and head to JACK AND JILL CONSIGNMENT BOUTIQUE. Sure, your little bundle is the cutest thing you’ve ever seen, but your baby’s hygiene is amazingly gross. All of those bodily functions - drooling, spitting up, peeing and pooping - end up on baby’s clothes and, for that matter, “your” clothes. Give your wallet a break and buy secondhand items and a good stain remover. Jack and Jill features a great selection of gently used and seasonally correct children’s clothing, as well as strollers, bouncers and toys. The equipment selection varies, but it’s a great place to check before you head out to a gigantic baby store to pay full price. And of course, once your little booger has grown out of the goods, you can resell them back to the shop. “31 N. Avondale Road, Avondale Estates, 404-508-0611. www.jackandjillconsignment.comless...
