A 'Merry Christmas to Y'all' from Small Reactions

Local nerve pop outfit releases a cassette of Christmas covers.

Ho, ho, ho: Small Reactions is releasing a new EP of garage-tinged Christmas covers on cassette via Deer Bear Wolf.

The five-song EP, titled Merry Christmas to Y'all, and recorded in the band's basement in November 2013, features covers of the Sonics, the Wailers, the Trashmen, and Chuck Berry (see the tracklist after the jump). The band will open the Atlanta dates for Jeffrey Bützer and T.T. Mahony's "A Charlie Brown Christmas" show with the new holiday tunes. Small Wreath-actions (a new name for the holiday performances) will open the annual performance of Vince Guaraldi's iconic score Dec. 19 and 20 at the Earl.

To get in the gift-giving spirit of the holidays, Deer Bear Wolf founder Davy Minor has started hiding wrapped Small Reactions Christmas tapes around Atlanta in locations such as the Mammal Gallery and Old Fourth Ward, Catlanta-style. To check out new hiding places, follow Minor on Instagram (@deerbearwolf).

If you don't want to scavenge around the city for tapes, the music is available online (for $5) and at the band's shows.

Tracklist:
1. "Santa Claus" (the Sonics)
2. "Run Rudolph, Run" (Chuck Berry)
3. "Christmas Spirit" (the Wailers)
4. "Don't Believe In Christmas" (the Sonics)
5. "Dancin' With Santa" (the Trashmen)

Small Reactions opens for "A Charlie Brown Christmas" on Fri., Dec. 19 and Sat., Dec. 20. $12. 9 p.m. The Earl. 488 Flat Shoals Ave. 404-522-3950. www.badearl.com.
