5 Play: EarthGang hits the road, Key! gives ‘em ‘Hell’
‘I love Jesus Christ, but I’m ‘bout to give ‘em hell’
EarthGang on tour with Ab-Soul
Atlanta rap duo EarthGang, (Johnny Venus and Doctur Dot) are hitting the road with TDE’s Ab-Soul. If you’re not familiar with EarthGang, they’re the guys behind Shallow Grave for Toys, arguably one of the better local rap releases to come out of the indie hip-hop scene in the past two years. EarthGang joins Ab-Soul for more than 40 dates on his These Days Tour. You’ll get a chance to see the “The F Bomb” MC’s Sat., Sept. 20, at Masquerade. In the meantime, check out the video for the aforementioned “Bomb” below.

Scotty ATL — “Nun But a Party” feat. Iamsu! and B.o.B
Earlier this week, Scotty ATL released the single “Nun But a Party,” from his forthcoming Spaghetti Junction project. The Lithonia MC recruited west coast upstart Iamsu! and B.o.B (who will be performing at Music Midtown Sat., at 4:45 p.m.) to join him on the Childish Major-produced cut. “Nun But a Party” isn’t as turnt as its title would suggest, however, the beat is hypnotic, the rhymes are on point, and we’re looking forward to anything that comes from Scotty.
Karen Alise — “No Remorse”
Karen Alise has the kind of voice, sass, and honesty that reminds one of Joi Gilliam. Well, at least that’s how we felt when she released her new single, “No Remorse,” on Tuesday, which also happened to be her birthday. Look out for Karen at the Paul Robeson Theatre this Sat., Sept. 20. She’ll be performing as part of the Arts Exchange’s 30th anniversary celebration.
SUDO: the Virgin Edition feat. NEVR, BLKKMORRIS, Xavier BLK, and Chris Golden
Production trio NEVR, and local fashion and design house FRESH.i.AM are hosting a dance party loaded with “dirty synths, suggestive vocals, and unrelenting thump” a.k.a. SUDO: the Virgin Edition. The party, at Space 2 in Old Fourth Ward, is a celebration of September birthdays for Omar Ferrer, Ira G. McNeal, and Xavier BLK. You can grab tickets here.
Key! — “Give Em Hell” (Video)
Key!’s the type of artist you can expect to be unpredictable. “Give Em Hell” comes from an EP of the same name, Key!’s collaborative project with OG Maco. The black and white visuals compliments of the Numbers, show a shirtless Key! roaming the streets of NYC with Brandon Thomas’ piano-laden beat playing as the backdrop to lyrics like, “I love Jesus Christ, but I’m about to give ‘em hell.” Hell hath no fury like a rapper scorned.
