The Shadowboxers return to the group’s stomping ground
Coming off a nationwide tour with the Indigo Girls, the Shadowboxers play Eddie’s Attic tonight
After touring across the Eastern United States for the past year, the Shadowboxers return to the group’s birthplace of Atlanta tonight.
The band’s founding three members, Scott Schwartz, Matt Lipkins, and Adam Hoffman, met during their freshman year at Emory University. Their days of jamming in dorm rooms and playing Emory arts competitions are since history, however.
Over the last year, the Shadowboxers have been touring alongside Atlanta natives and fellow Emory alums, the Indigo Girls. Not only are they the indie folk group’s opening act, but they have also been serving as the Indigo Girls’ backing band.
The group’s self-titled 2011 EP was produced by Shawn Grove, who worked with Collective Soul, and Dan Hannon, who has worked with Manchester Orchestra.
The band released its first full-length, The Red Room, early this year. Red Room was produced by Brady Blade (who plays drums for Emmylou Harris and Dave Matthews), and was engineered by Chris Bell (whose studio credits include U2). The 14-track sequence incorporates elements of blues, soul, funk, and indie rock throughout. The polished, three-part harmonies keep listening easy on the ears.
