It was a night of exploring themes of pre-Columbian chaos worship through extreme arts and rituals

The Los Angeles-based black metal collective, dubbed Black Twilight Circle, including bands such as Volahn, Arizmenda, BHL, and Bilirubin, took the stage at 529 on July 10. Throughout the night, each group shared personnel, as members took turns playing different instruments within each successive band. The Black Twilight Circle explores themes of pre-Columbian chaos worship through extreme arts and rituals. The very word Volahn is said to mean 'ritual chaos.'
In August, 2011, Volahn, who shares his namesake with the band, and stands as the collective's mouthpiece explained Black Twilight Circle's M.O. to Boston Phoenix writer Ian Duncan-Brown: "The early days were intoxicating hallucinations of violence, drugs, hatred, prejudice, struggle, and learning the ways of occult ritual ... Black Twilight is our means of limitless expression and the purest disorder."
