Carnivores: 'Spell'

A trippy video for a magical track

Here's some trippy sorcery to close out the summer. "Spell" is the enchanting first single off Carnivores' upcoming record Second Impulse. It's a relentlessly catchy track that's loaded with hypnotically lo-fi garage-rock charm, and the song's bridge features some screeching strings that conjure images of a cackling witch. Think Harry Potter meets post-punk.

The video, filmed in one take and directed by Bill Guzik and guitarist Ross Politi, shows the Atlanta group playing in a circle, presumably casting some musical hex on the viewer. An underwater camera slowly rotates around the Carnivores in bewitching blurriness as a shiny haze of glitter and food coloring distorts the images beautifully.

Second Impulse, the band's third LP, will be out on Oct. 8 via Army of Bad Luck, and the record release show is on Oct. 12 with Shantih Shantih at 529.
