Beatz + Lyrics 2 Go: Boog Brown and Stanza get 'Together'

CL premieres the first leak from the mixtape recorded at last year's A3C Hip Hop Festival

Collaboraton is an art and a science, as proven by the first leak from the forthcoming Beatz & Lyrics 2 Go Vol. 2 mixtape. Recorded on-site during last year's A3C Hip Hop Festival, inside the Unique Squared Mobile Studio and at the nearby studio Salem Psalms Library, the 2011 edition features pairings between some of the finest lyricists within Atlanta's organic hip-hop scene alongside MCs and producers from around the country.

The thing that makes this project so special is that each individual MC selects beats to rap over without knowing the identity of the producer behind the beat — thereby eliminating choices that might be motivated by ego or regionalism instead of talent and pure inspiration. As a result, artists who may have never collaborated discover they make beautiful music together. And the onus is on the executive producers (Amond Jackson and J. Haze of Salem Psalms) behind the project to corral all the artists involved and put together the pieces that naturally fit.

So when you hear Detroit native/Atlanta transplant Boog Brown and Atlanta native Stanza spitting over a track produced by Atlanta-based King I Divine, realize that the whole collage is as organic as the scratches provided by three-time Scribble Jam champion Presyce.

Appropriately titled "Together," the first single features four versions (dirty, radio edit, instrumental, acapella) available on Bandcamp, which Creative Loafing is blasting out first. Look for the next single — featuring Sha Stimuli and producer Focus — and the full mixtape here in the coming weeks.
