Ron Artest: Basketball star, lightning rod...rapper?
Artest goes the way of Neon Deion and the '85 Bears before him with a new single, Champions""

Ron Artest is one wacky dude. First there was the Malice at the Palace. Then came the admission that he often drank Hennessy during halftime at his games as a Chicago Bull. Your move, Rodman.
?
And it seems now that Artest is beginning a new phase in his ever-fascinating career. In a post-game interview following the Lakers' title-clinching effort last Thursday, Artest was an ebullient madman. Aside from thanking his psychiatrist for "helping me relax a lot", he dropped the news that he had a "new single" about to drop. Yes, Ron Artest has gone the way of Deion Sanders and the '85 Chicago Bears before him and delved into the world of music.

To be fair, "Champions", Artest's "2010 Lakers Theme Song", isn't half bad, as far as these things go. Artest can carry a decent flow, and the backing track is kinda cool, with that minor-key air organ droning on. Sure, the auto-tune is annoying, but I give Ronnie an A for effort. And it's well-established that Artest is a fervent music fan - he wears number 37 to honor Michael Jackson. Listen to "Champions" (EDIT: and another, more humanitarian Artest jam) after the jump.
