__NOTED ACTS
ADOM -- Musical inspirations mentioned in this local quartet's press kit: Tortoise, Portishead, the Police, Mogwai, U2 — disparate enough for you yet? Layering atmospheric, though resolutely melodic, tunes over languorous grooves, the band creates an oddly sexy sound driven home by Conal Byrne's attractively reedy lead vocals. All told, Adom's quite compelling, and certainly one of the more promising up-and-comers I've heard lately. Smith's Olde Bar__ (Robertson)
IMMORTAL LEE COUNTY KILLERS, THEM WRANCH — These Alabama "duo jets" are anything but flat. Led by former Quadrajets guitarist Chet "the Cheetah" Weise, they're a gruesome twosome whose primal sound is torn raw and bloody from the dark underbelly of the Auburn rock scene. Three-chord punkers from Ohio, Them Wranch should be perfect on the bill with the 'Killers. At times wandering into bluesy-rock territory, these Wranch-hands clutch tightly 'round the listener's neck until the victim begs for more. Good-time fuzzed-out garage rock with a twist-off cap. Hell, yeah. Star Bar (Nicoll/Smith)
VOCAL BAOBOB — An Afro-Cuban concert with the Havana-based roots group that specializes in Yoruba chants, bata and rumba rhythms. Show time is 7 p.m.; admission is free. Vocal Baobob also performs later that night as part of the Renaissance Hotel's "Midnight Jams" series. Urban Life Auditorium/Georgia State (Powell)
