NOTED ACTS

ELVIS COMES ALIVE — Once again commemorating the King’s death day, Johnny’s Hideaway — home of a fine Elvis memorabilia collection (but no Gracevault) — brings Elvis impersonator Mark Phillips to to relive the glory and pathos of the late, great Mr. Presley. Johnny’s Hideaway (Sarig)

FALLING UP — Serviceable, competent and, well, pretty boring alt-rock from local quartet whose tendency toward musical bombast recalls Throwing Copper-era Live. I’ll give ‘em props for their obvious sincerity and chops, but methinks they would do well to lighten up a bit. Smith’s Olde Bar (Robertson)

IMMORTAL LEE COUNTY KILLERS, SYRUP, BULLY — The crazed Killers share the stage this evening with Syrup, a wild over-the-top Florida rock band known for their colorful props and antics. Also on the bill is Bully, one of the best damn rock bands in Atlanta, whose songs are beautiful and hilarious polished gems of satiric urban paranoia, set to thundering metallic blasts. Star Bar (Nicoll)

PROJECT/OBJECT: A TRIBUTE TO FRANK ZAPPA — Ike Willis, a vocalist/guitarist in Zappa’s band from 1979 to 1993, joins up for this season’s tour with Project/Object, a Zappa tribute group that plays songs from every phase of the late guitarist/composer’s career. Together, they expect to rekindle the lost magic of Zappa’s legendary concert performances. Variety Playhouse (Nicoll)
