Sound Menu September 16 2000 Mon

Noted acts for Monday, Sept. 18
MINAMINA GOODSONG, JUSTIN HALE — Two of the Kaleidoscope crew’s shining lights, the live hip-hop group Justin Hale and up-and-coming rap duo Minamina Goodsong, take turns getting ill and representing for the paleskins. Nomenclature Museum (Sarig)

BRITNEY SPEARS, DON PHILIP — See Britney Spears article. The problem with the current glut of bubblegum pop lies not with the shallowness of the genre itself (that, my friends, is the essence of its perennial appeal). No, its downfall is the dreary sameness of it all. Take opening act Don Philip’s new tune, “You Make Me Love You ... More,” for example. It’s a shameless hackjob that sounds like a patchy rewrite of George Michael’s “Faith” filtered through ‘N Sync’s production team. Oh well, he certainly is dreamy and will undoubtedly look great in Tiger Beat. Lakewood Amphitheatre (Robertson)
