Noted acts
COLLECTIVE SOUL — See Collective Soul review. Tabernacle (Horowitz)
DEFTONES, INCUBUS, TAPROOT — See article on the Deftones and Incubus. Thrash rock on the Korn/Bizkit tip, Taproot has moments where they come close to grasping an intelligent and creative melodic approach. And then they start screaming real loud. Again. They recently performed on the Ozzfest 2000 tour, and their debut release, Gift, has garnered a lot of attention from the MTV buzz machine, as has their highly publicized falling out with Limp Bizkit front man, Fred Durst. See Taproot review online at atlanta.creativeloafing.com. International Ballroom (Hutchinson)
JOHN MCLAUGHLIN — Although he’s recently released two albums acoustic and electric, simultaneously this “Remember Shakti” tour will focus on the classical Indian music that consumed master guitarist McLaughlin in the post Mahavishnu ’70s. Tabla player Zakir Hussain is back for the ride, but just because the unplugged show’s players remain seated and cross-legged, doesn’t mean there won’t be electrified sparks flying. Before spotlight-stealing hotshots like Vai and Satriani, McLaughlin was considered the world’s finest, fastest and most refined six-string slinger. Hearing his new albums will assure anyone that he’s still unbeatable. Seeing him live will confirm it. Glenn Memorial Auditorium/Emory (Horowitz)
