Sharp Notes October 28 2000

HI-TEK. El Pus just completed the score for an indie film Life’s Suite featuring MTV’s “The Real World” star Tek, who also plays drums on one track. The band’s Cufi describes the soundtrack as including “everything from blaxploitation wah-wah stuff to jazz and, of course, rock.”
TLC UPDATE: Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins has announced that she will no longer tour with the popular but troubled Atlanta based R&B/pop band. Watkins, who is pregnant and has sickle cell anemia, has been hospitalized repeatedly throughout the past year. The band’s LaFace label says TLC will continue to tour without T-Boz. Meanwhile the once missing Lisa “Left Eye” Lopez has just finished co-hosting the MOBO awards in London’s Alexandra Palace. The clothes-horse made no less than six costume changes during the show, running the gamut from a fur bikini to hot pants. Not to be left out of the extra-curricular activities, Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas has joined the cast of Vanessa Williams’ “A Diva’s Christmas Carol.” It premieres Dec. 1 on VH-1.
IMPOSSIBLY COOL POSTER. The Echo Lounge, whose boldly unique eye-catching posters recall the days of the old Fillmore West, has cooked up a special one for the club’s Halloween show (see item on this page). Artist Robert Lee has screen-printed a few on black velvet. Even if you’re not a fan of the garage rockers who are currently touring the North-east, you might want to get a load of this baby. Check it out at clyde.lee@mindspring.com.
SPEED OF SOUND. Tune in Thursday, Nov. 2, at 8 p.m. to the Music1st.com website (www.media1st.com/verticals/music1st/ index300.html) to hear a live, predominantly unplugged netcast of 3d5spd. They’ll be doing a short interview and playing a handful of songs. If you miss the live experience it’ll be available on the site’s archive. Look for a new CD, partially produced by David Barbe and tentatively titled Bike Dreams, in late December.
