Raury: All We Need

Columbia Records

From the onset of Raury’s proper debut, All We Need, it’s clear the 19-year-old from Stone Mountain has no intention of veering out of his lane as music’s self-proclaimed “Indigo Child.” When he sings, “All we need is love,” in the album’s opener, it’s clear that Raury was born amid syrup-induced trap tales. But All We Need goes best with incense and salt candles rather than blunts and double cups of lean. Like with his Indigo Child mixtape, Raury is all over the place, genre hopping, singing, rapping, scatting, and, in some cases, preaching. The result is a mixed bag of mostly strong (“Cpu,” “Peace Prevail,” “Trap Tears”) and occasionally misguided (“Love is Not a Four Letter Word,” “Mama”) attempts at showing his potential. ★ ★ ★ ☆ ☆
