Sons of Tonatiuh: Parade of Sorrows
Self-released
In the time between playing the hell out of its self-titled debut and recording Parade of Sorrows, Sons of Tonatiuh shrank from a four-piece to a trio, losing a guitar in the process. This comes across on Parade of Sorrows in a raw, live sound that gains strength with the drum fills, guitar, and vocal arrangements heard on such songs as "Plastic Cell," "Sea Sick," and the paint-peeling "Fallout." Each number builds around screaming vocal harmonies, unexpected melodies, and monstrous guitar solos. But the real power lies in the uncomplicated design of it all. Although the album's smoldering grind won't find much of an audience beyond underground metal ears, Sons of Tonatiuh actually breaks new ground here, while staying true to the group's clawing roots.
