Cream Cuts
Tussle’s Cream Cuts occupies a nebulous piece of real estate that lies somewhere in the neighborhood of Kraut rock, post-punk and house music. “Saturnism” lays out the raw sonic material that sputters to life with a sparse and jazzy clatter that tricks the mind into thinking it’s going to be some sort of lo-fi excursion. But the robotic thump of “Transparent C” changes everything. A groove is established that plucks the pleasure centers of the brain with waves of psychedelic beat and reverb that could easily spiral into infinity. “Titan” is a polyrhythmic funk jam that revels in a collage of homemade, art-house beats that fit together like puzzle pieces, creating an album that draws strength from uncomplicated and unapologetic grooves. 5 stars
