Waylon Jennings and the Waymore Blues Band

Never Say Die: The Complete Final Concert

In January 2000, it was pretty clear that country music legend Waylon Jennings was facing the battle for his life. Years of hard living, resulting in emphysema and diabetes, had taken their toll, but he insisted on doing what he did so well at least a few more times. This CD/DVD package documents one of Jennings’ final concert appearances, an all-star tribute recorded at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium. Featuring a reunion of his original Waymore Blues Band, wife Jessi Colter, John Anderson, Travis Tritt and Montgomery Gentry, the show is a fitting memorial to the original outlaw. In spite of the ravaging health issues, Jennings was in rare form on the night of the show. There are a few moments where he was obviously on the decline, but the voice, the guitar picking and the charisma were pretty much intact. Even in his final days, Jennings still brought his best game, and he was one tough old hoss. 4 stars.
