Senator needed, good job, great benefits

State Senate Minority Leader Michael Meyer von Bremen, D-Albany, and state Sen. Carol Jackson, D-Cleveland, are the two newest names to surface as possible U.S. Senate candidates in 2004.

Jackson, who just happens to be U.S. Sen. Zell Miller’s state senator, says she is considering a run but hasn’t put any timetable on making a decision.

Meyer von Bremen, 46, says he’s crunching numbers to see if it’s economically realistic to take a year off from his law practice and weighing the impact it would have on his family. He has two teenage daughters — 16 and 13. He says he hopes to have a decision made some time around Thanksgiving.

Miller endorsed President Bush’s re-election last week, giving Georgia Democrats added incentive to replace him with someone from their own party.

(By the way, Zell, could you have timed that “endorsement” any more perfectly to the release of your book? What an Amazon-dot-comical coincidence.)
