What are your feelings when you see the American flag now?
KATHLEEN, ATLANTA
I like that people are being patriotic. I hope that it's going to be lasting and not just something that's superficial. It's kind of a knee-jerk reaction, and I hope that it's going to affect people in more than just flag waving, that people are really going to think about how they treat each other. America means the world at this point, and there are so many different nationalities in our country now. I hope people are inclusive of everybody when they're flying that flag, and that it will inspire people to be better to their fellow Americans.
JOSE, DECATUR
I have mixed emotions about seeing the flag. It's a shame we have to experience a tragedy for people to be unified in America. But overall, it's a sign that people are coming together, so it's good. It's a new day and hopefully, beyond this event we are experiencing right now, people will continue to come together and try to create a stronger nation. I hope it's not a phase or something they feel they need to do, but it's something that comes naturally — that each day you wake up, you feel you should embrace others.
MIKE, ATLANTA
I appreciate the new interest in our flag. It's a good way to keep such a tragedy as this on everybody's mind. It's a constant reminder that it's not over. Without that flag flying, we probably would have a tendency as a nation to forget about it and what we want to do about it. Right now, it's doing exactly what a flag should do. It's pulling this country together tighter than it has been in years. I'm glad I'm seeing everywhere. It's great. I'd like to see the flag fly this much all the time.??
