Bar Review - Celestial Spirits

Newly opened by Govantez Lowndes, former co-owner of the now defunct west side canteen Commune, the Technology Square-situated Globe strives to be a world cuisine-informed bistro for the condos edging Fifth St. Chef Joshua Perkins' emphasis on organic produce bleeds over to the 30-foot zinc bar.

Tangy rhubarb puree favors its more sweet, strawberry-like facet when paired with dark, smoky rum, lime juice and molasses in a daiquiri. Campari unveils tart grapefruit notes on the finish of an Italian Job, a champagne flute of the herbal Italian spirit mixed with passion fruit and OJ. And a Pimms cocktail - which mixes the British gin-based Pimms No. 1 digestif with ginger ale, mint and citrus slices - unfurls an almost green tea-like undertone. Fresh takes on sangria and margaritas are also featured, making the Globe's cocktails well-rounded, indeed.
