Full-service art for artists, from posters to T-shirts
Atlanta-based Methane Studios comprises Mark McDevitt, Robert Lee and a whole lot of creative energy. The two Ohio-born artists moved down to the Peach State in '92 and opened up their full-service studio in '98. The business started off specializing in kick-ass, silk-screen band posters and has expanded its operations to include CD art packaging, logo design, T-shirt design, branding and brochures.
Both McDevitt and Lee attended the Columbus College of Art & Design, where they majored in illustration.
Methane Studios is currently working with Blue Q to design the packaging on its new gum and air fresheners. For taking part in the process, Methane gets a percentage of product sold.
Methane was hired by Sony to design the official poster for the Pearl Jam 2006 tour. Among Methane's other clients are Beck and the Dave Matthews Band.
McDevitt says they have a two-part design process. First, come up with a concept. Second, make it look good.
