A Critic’s Notebook: The Sleepy Hollow Experience begins

Are you experienced?

Days are turning blustery, nights are getting darker, and Halloween is just around the corner. One of the shows we’re especially curious about as the season approaches is this production of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, opening this weekend at Serenbe Playhouse.

? ? ?
Called The Sleepy Hollow Experience and based on the famous tale by Washington Irving, the production takes place in the stables of Serenbe, a New Urbanism development about 40 minutes southwest of downtown Atlanta. According to the promotional materials, viewers will follow a roving band of musicians from place to place as the story of Ichabod Crane and the Headless Horseman unfolds. The whole thing seems to be an intriguing and promising mix of haunted house, literary short story, and interactive theatrical performance.

The drive to the Serenbe development from Atlanta can be a bit of a drag, but it should be noted the property has some highly-rated restaurants, and there’s even an inn if you want to make a little getaway out of the experience.
