David Byrne signing books at the Tabernacle
The Tabernacle isn't your typical venue for an author speaking and book signing, but, you know, David Byrne isn't your typical author. The legendary musician and cycling advocate's first book, Bicycle Diaries, is a collection of episodic ruminations on place that follow Byrne and his bicycle around the world. He's in town to speak at an urban planning conference and A Cappella Books will be on hand to sell signed copies of Bicycle Diaries. Thomas Wheatley conducted a fantastic interview with him this week by email, though we had been hoping that Byrne would have had time to join us for bicycle tour of Atlanta.
Perhaps we should have just tried to imitate Jason Crombie's interview tactics for Wooooo Magazine in 2007, "I saw David Byrne riding his bike down Houston St. here in New York, and I chased him on foot with tape-recorder in hand, and I ran along side him and I interviewed him. That’s journalism man. That’s how it’s meant to be done. " Crombie goes straight for the big questions with Byrne, like "Is it true Lou Reed advised you not to wear short sleeves on stage?" Check out that whole interview on Byrne's website.
David Byrne will be at the Tabernacle on Wed., May 18 at 8 pm. Tickets available here.
