Westview celebrates 100 years, Beltline opens southwest trail on Saturday
Also on the agenda: Free 5K
Westview residents and Beltline officials team up tomorrow to celebrate the quaint Southwest Atlanta ‘hood’s centennial and the ribbon-cutting of a 2.5 mile bike trail along the 22-mile loop of parks and transit.
Events start at 9 a.m. with a free 5K sponsored by Atlanta Beltline Inc. At 11 a.m., Beltline officials and residents — we’re hearing Mayor Kasim Reed might also make an appearance — will mark the completion of the trail segment that offers connections to the neighborhood and historic Westview Cemetery. From 11:30 a.m. until 4 p.m, everyone can participate in a grill-off, music, games and an artist/vendor market that will feature printmakers demonstrating their techniques, face-painting and puppet shows for the kids, and more. (There’s a suggested $5 donation for the grill-off.)
Festivities take place at KIPP Strive Academy, located in the historic J.C. Harris School at 1444 Lucile Ave SW. The 5K begins at Rose Circle Park. Enjoy!
