Demonstrators to oppose GA's 'Arizona copycat law' today

Opponents say controversial measure could return Georgia to 'show me your papers' state

The Georgia House of Representatives is scheduled to vote today on House Bill 87 — aka the "Illegal Immigration Reform and Enforcement Act of 2011," aka the "Show me your papers" bill, aka the "Arizona Copycat law."

Opponents including the ACLU of Georgia say the bill raises "serious civil liberties concerns" by encouraging racial profiling and could harm Georgia’s economy by killing jobs.

Protesters will gather on the Capitol steps facing Washington Street at 2:30 p.m. — or shortly after the House votes on the controversial measure.
